Brian Anderson lined a walk-off double past diving San Diego third baseman Manny Machado with one out in the ninth inning Thursday afternoon to give the Miami Marlins a 4-3 victory over the visiting Padres in the rubber match of a three-game series.

Garrett Cooper started the final-inning rally with a one-out single against Padres reliever Trey Wingenter. Yadiel Rivera ran for Cooper, stole second on a pitch in the dirt and scored on Anderson's double that reached the left-field corner.

Sergio Romo, who struck out two in a perfect top of the ninth, earned the win to improve to 2-0. Wingenter (1-3) took the loss in a second straight appearance as the Padres lost for the fifth time in six games to open the second half.

Marlins relievers Nick Anderson and Romo struck out seven Padres over the final three innings.

The Padres tied the game against hard-throwing Marlins reliever Tayron Guerrero in the sixth. Margot and Hedges drew two-out walks and Margot scored on a single by pinch-hitter Francisco Mejia.
