SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Manitoba scored seven unearned runs in a 7-2 victory over the P.E.I. Youth Selects at the 2019 Canada Cup Canadian under-17 baseball championship on Thursday evening in Regina, Sask.
Manitoba scored deuces in the second and fourth innings and added three more in the bottom of the fifth inning to close out the game’s scoring. Manitoba improved to 2-1 (won-lost) while the Selects fell to 1-2. P.E.I. plays Alberta on Friday afternoon and closes out round-robin play against Nova Scotia on Saturday morning.
Ben MacDougall was the hard-luck losing pitcher against Manitoba. The right-hander went the distance, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out five in six innings of work.
Offensively, Chase Gaudette (2-2, walk), Nolan Ryan (2-3, run scored), Noah Dow (1-2), Jack MacKenzie (1-3, run scored, RBI) and Duncan Picketts (1-3) led the way for P.E.I.
