MORELL, P.E.I. – The Morell Chevies struck for four runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 9-0 victory in Game 1 of their semifinal series with the Northside Gill Construction Brewers on Wednesday evening.

Troy Coffin went the distance for the Chevies, scattering three hits while striking out five. Tyson Blue suffered the loss, with relief from Jayden MacLean.

The Chevies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame as Darcy Affleck cashed in Taylor Larkin with an RBI double. The Chevies would add three runs in the second inning on Larkin's two-run double and an RBI single by Desi Doyle. Three more runs in the fourth would spell the end of the night for Blue, as Doyle, Affleck and Stephen O'Shea all connected for RBI singles.

A pair of runs driven in by Jarrod Laybolt and O'Shea would complete the scoring for the Chevies in the sixth.

Larkin paced the Chevy attack with three hits, while Doyle, Affleck, O'Shea and Josh MacDonald all added a pair. Pat Young, Mitch Ryan and Will Jadis had the Brewers hits.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in Morell.
