The Holland College Hurricanes are looking to keep the momentum going this weekend after a perfect start to the baseball season on the road last weekend.
The ’Canes (4-0) visit the Saint Mary’s Huskies (2-2) today before hosting the St. FX X-Men (2-2) Sunday at Memorial Field in Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ACBA) regular season action. There are doubleheaders each day beginning at 1 p.m.
“We had a great start to our season (with) our wins last weekend on the road,” said Colin Gaudette, who sports a .714 average with four RBI and four runs scored. “We hope to keep the momentum going this weekend. We’ll have to take it one play at a time and focus if we want to continue in the win column.”
Tyson McInnis, a Hurricanes first-year infielder from Peakes, looks forward to playing at home in front of the Island baseball fans.
“This weekend should be a good weekend of baseball,” he said. “We’re very excited to play the games versus the Huskies and our home opener on Sunday.”
McInnis has a .545 average, three RBI and seven runs scored.
The Hurricanes top performer on the mound last weekend was Eric Anderson of Charlottetown. The first-year player has a 1.17 earned-run average after six innings.
Hurricanes head coach Andrew MacNevin said the goal is to continue to improve each week.
