Bantam A Chevys clinch first

SUMMERSIDE – The Summerside Chevys are entering the P.E.I. Bantam A Baseball League playoffs as the top seed.

Summerside Chevys

The Chevys recently won a first-place showdown with the Sherwood-Parkdale Knights 13-9 in a game called after six innings due to darkness. That win, coupled with two victories over the Bedeque Blue Jackets in the final two regular-season games, clinched top spot.
The Chevys will open the playoffs at Kowalski Field in Freetown on Tuesday against the Blue Jackets at 5 p.m. – note the start time. Summerside returns home to Legends Field to host the Charlottetown Royals on Thursday at 6 p.m., and the Blue Jackets on Friday, also at 6 p.m.

Chevys 13 Knights 9
In Sherwood-Parkdale, every player recorded either a hit or a run batted in for the Chevys.
Connor Costain (2-2, walk, run scored RBI), Dylan Gilfoy (2-3, two runs scored) and Ty Newman (2-3, run scored, RBI) led the Chevys’ offensive attack.
For Sherwood, Matt Perry (2-2, run scored, RBI) and Matt Hunter (1-1, walk, run scored, two RBIs) were the top batters.
Summerside starter Cory Evers earned the win, allowing four runs on three hits, three walks and he struck out 11 in five innings of work. Cameron Paynter finished the game for the Chevys.
Isaac Hughes, with relief from Hunter and Kyle McPhail, pitched for Sherwood.

Chevys 11 Blue Jackets 1
Andrew Cameron and Reid MacKay combined to pitch a no-hitter for the Chevys in the opening game of a doubleheader.
Cameron, who allowed one run, walked six and struck out 12 in four innings, earned the pitching win. MacKay worked the final inning, issuing two walks and registering one strikeout. Rave Fergeson and Cameron Mitchell pitched for Bedeque.
Lance Murphy (2-2, walk, two runs scored, five RBIs), Paynter (1-1, hit by pitch twice, three runs scored) and Kaden McInnis (1-1, walk, two RBIs) paced Summerside’s offence.
Fergeson drew two walks and scored Bedeque’s run.

Chevys 13 Blue Jackets 3
The Chevys spotted the Blue Jackets a 3-1 lead after 1 ½ innings, before roaring back for the victory.
Carter Ripley relieved MacKay and earned the pitching win. Ripley allowed one unearned run, no hits, no walks, hit two batters and picked up three strikeouts in two innings of work.
Ella Nicholson, who was relieved by Colton Lowther, pitched the first 3 1/3 innings for Bedeque.
Costain (2-2, two runs scored, two RBIs), Ripley (2-2, run scored, two RBIs), Paynter (2-3, run scored, two RBIs), Gallant (2-3, run scored, RBI), Matt McInnis (1-1, walk, hit by pitch, two runs scored, RBI), Jordan Arsenault (1-3, triple, run scored) and Gilfoy (1-1, two walks, two runs scored) paced Summerside’s attack.
Thomas Rayner (1-2, two RBIs) and Mark MacCormack (1-2, run scored) were Bedeque’s leading hitters.
