SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Red Shores at Summerside Raceway is hosting harness racing on Sunday.
The opening post time is set for 1 p.m.
The 10-race presentation will send a host of conditioned pacers to the starting gate in the feature of the day in Race 9.

Governor’s Plate prep
The $5,500 Cecil Ladner Memorial Pace goes at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday night.
The fastest horse in Atlantic Canada pays a visit to the Island. All Artist, by virtue of a 1:53.4. clocking in Truro, N.S., has drawn Post 5. Gilles Barrieau has opted to drive for veteran trainer Toby MacDonald and owner Anthony Stymest.
The pride of Cape Breton Island is Euchred and he is on a roll. The seven-year-old son of Shadow Play has back-to-back victories in 1:54.2 as he prepares for a shot at the Governor’s Plate, which is coming quickly.
Walter Simmons is back in the harness racing game after a recent purchase of Bugsy Maguire. Bugsy was parked out in his Island debut last week, but never threw in the towel. He was only beaten by 1 ½ lengths, pacing a closing quarter in 27.4 for a mile in 1:54.3.

Future stars
The two-year-old future stars of racing has been moved to Monday at 6 p.m. The weather forecast forced the move by Red Shores management. These two-year-old trotters and pacers are just a treat to watch as their careers begin to take off.
The next race date in Summerside will be the annual Canada Day of racing on Monday, July 1st. Then the following Sunday it’s the Governor’s Plate eliminations and a look at the pretenders and contenders for Summerside’s richest race.

Congratulations
I must congratulate my old buddy Barney McGuigan and his son, Mike, after establishing a new track record for three-year-old trotting colts in Charlottetown on Thursday evening. Gettin Messi (owner Jamie Whalen) stopped the clock in 1:58.3. for the new standard.

Picks
A look at Sunday’s picks:
Best bets – Woodmere Oleksiak in Race 3 and Traces of Purple in Race 7.
Long shot possibilities – Dilans Mustang in Race 4 and Complete Player in Race 6.
