Maria, a Grade 11 student, played the middle position for Evangeline School in senior A girls’ volleyball, and ran cross-country in the fall. She will also participate in the PEISAA triathlon, high jump in track and field and volleyball at Evangeline School in the spring.
Outside of school, Maria figure skates out of the Evangeline Recreation Centre, and she also plays summer soccer with the Summerside United.
“Maria Arsenault is one of the most well-rounded athletes I’ve ever seen,” commented Evangeline School athletic director Jason Arsenault. “Whether it’s explosive power in high jump or sprints; the high endurance needed in long-distance running; the agility and communication skills in volleyball, or the grace and flexibility required in figure skating, Maria models them all.”
Arsenault also praised Maria’s work ethic, attitude as outstanding while adding she is always looking for ways to improve her results.
“She is extremely coachable, and a pleasure to have on any team,” continued the athletic director. “She is respectful, kind and always willing to lend a hand.”
Maria’s future plans following graduation from high school are undecided.
