Yuan wins twice at recent Badminton P.E.I. provincials in Cornwall

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Sam Yuan showed why he is a nationally, top-ranked player after winning the under-15 boys singles and boys doubles titles at the recent Badminton P.E.I. under-15 and under-19 provincials in Cornwall. 

Yuan swept Spencer Gallant 21-9 and 21-7 in the singles final (Brayden Bruce won the consolation round), then Yuan partnered with Leon Yuan and outgunned Christopher MacDougall and Dominik Pineau 21-6 and 21-9, to claim the under-15 boys doubles crown. Bruce and Desmond Cunniffe captured the consolation.

In mixed doubles, Spencer Gallant and Adelle Breau won the opening game 21-11, but Mitchell Ford and Torey MacDonald stormed back 21-19 and 21-15 to win the crown two games to one. Haibo Li and Alexis Fougere won the consolation.

In girls singles, Breau outlasted MacDonald 21-14 and 21-17 and the final, while Amy Sun took the consolation.

In the girls doubles round robin, Sarah Lou and Sun finished 2-0 and earned first place, while Chuyue Zhang and Jinghan Zhang placed second and Kimmy Chen and Songxian Yu were third. 

The tourney drew 37 participants.
