My seven-year-old daughter was really excited.

Her hair was red, thanks to my wife spraying it with a can of temporary colour we picked up for the kids a few months ago.

“Daddy, look,” she beamed, flicking her locks like someone in a Pantene commercial.

Spraying her hair is one of a gazillion little things we’ve done to try to keep the kids busy and limit their screen time these past few weeks.

Still, despite those efforts and no matter how much Disney+ they watch or the amount of “Fortnite” they play, we’ll inevitably hear them declare “I’m bored” at least 76.3 times an hour.

“Find ways to keep yourself busy,” I tell them. “We always had to. We had two channels, no video games, and a tablet was something Moses carried. Do we need to establish new household commandments? Go play. Be creative ...”

But truth be told, I’m a little bored myself during this period of staying home and social distancing.

So much so, I’ve let my beard grow

It’s so long I expected someone might ask me to sing “Sharp Dressed Man” during my weekly trek to the grocery store.

I’m not a real fan of beards, especially my grey patches, but I’m even less of a fan of shaving.

Still, I like to tidy the fuzz and keep it combed.

Still, despite those efforts and no matter how much Disney+ they watch or the amount of “Fortnite” they play, we’ll inevitably hear them declare “I’m bored” at least 76.3 times an hour.

To do the latter, I often grab the nearest brush and run it through for a couple of minutes.

That’s always been pretty inconsequential until yesterday when I picked up my daughter’s brush, the one she’s been using since her hair was sprayed red.

My irritating white patches are now bright pink.

This, too, is very exciting for my daughter.
