Re: “Protesters not legit” (Feb. 14 letter). Before we condemn the inconvenience caused by land and water protector blockades across the nation, we need to realize protectors are, at the same time, standing against a pipeline that will decide whether Canada addresses the climate emergency or not.
We are “brainwashed” if we don’t understand that drilling for gas must now end, and that we should be standing side by side with land and water protectors.
First Nations are giving settlers a perfect opportunity to start planning alternatives to our toxic culture. We could start today to engage in the living practice of “sharing.” We have mistakenly come to believe that a civilized society thrives on “shareholding” which, in turn, grows “investment livelihoods.” This is the big chain of lies that has allowed theft, genocide and war to proliferate a fossil-fuel-based “wealth.”
These practices must pass, yet they still line our pockets, bloat our egos and destroy our judgment. This is not a life at all.
Tell me, “What is legit?”

On CBC television, I see protesters carrying propane tanks to the railway barrier site. I wonder if they are aware that the propane they are using comes out of a pipeline somewhere.
