My friend Wallace went into a home last December. He didn’t want to go as he had a great living accommodation, but as the Liberal government would only allow him six hours of home care, he had no choice.

He was sent to a private seniors’ home which was totally inappropriate for his needs. With no family to check on him, it wasn’t an ideal situation. One time, he was forgotten about in his room for eight hours and I had to call the office to get him looked after.

This man has been awarded a Purple Heart award from fighting in Vietnam and should be residing in the yeterans wing.

Because of the poor winter and then COVID-19, his appointments to his optometrist were cancelled and now he is legally blind.

Last week he spent five hours in Emergency by himself because of a stomach virus, and today when I visited him he was all bruised from a fall he had.

This man has been awarded a Purple Heart award from fighting in Vietnam and should be residing in the yeterans wing. He has requested the same but was told he had to wait until after COVID-19.

My fear is that he will not live that long.

Is this how we treat seniors in our province? We all saw what happened in Ontario and Quebec, but it is also happening in our province. This is a private care home where they cannot compete with the wages in government homes and the care is not comparable.

I call on our Health Department to respect this man’s wishes and ensure his last remaining years are ones where he is adequately cared for.

Thank you.
