The discussion is finally being had around the potential sale of Mile One stadium. I’m guessing the process will be a painful one for the interested parties.
Of course, I understand this is a decision that cannot be made lightly, but why use an independent consultant, then board of directors and finally the elected city council?
It always keeps coming back to what’s best for the taxpayer, because as a taxpayer we have benefited so much from the stadium — small amount of sarcasm there. Sure, I’m thankful that I’ve been able to go watch a hockey game with my dad, or a scattered concert over the years, but change is needed now.
You have a potential buyer who actually wants to bring life back to the building and actually make it profitable. Again, this is all my opinion, but I just think there is a pile of exciting potential for the building and, unfortunately, if it is not sold, it will still be just another arena in the city where you go for a recreational game of hockey or general skate.
