Re: The provincial government announcement of reinstating publicly elected school boards (The Guardian, Jan. 26, 2020).
As a former Unit 3 elected school trustee, I am so happy that our P.E.I. government will reinstate governing school boards with elected officials.
It was disheartening to me when parents of P.E.I. school children sat idly by and lost their democratic right to have a major direct voice in the public education of their children.
The new model of governance to be in place in the fall of 2020 will, I hope, clearly define the roles of the board (elected members) and their employees (superintendent and staff).
I look forward to parents taking their rightful place in the Island education system.
