This year Canada Day had a special meaning because it marks Israel's theft and annexation of the Palestinian West Bank as part of Trump's "Deal of the Century". The annexation of Palestinian land by Israel brazenly violates international law and has been condemned by the UN, EU and Jewish intellectuals.
Most Canadians do not support Israel's policy of annexing the West Bank. A recent Ekos Research Associates survey (June 10, 2020) found that 74 per cent of all Canadians want the Liberal government to forcefully oppose Israel's expansionist policies; 42 per cent of Canadians want sanctions against Israel. Only 32-50 per cent of Israelis support annexation (Reuters and ToI).
Canada's failure to win a UN Security Council seat, in part, reflects the international community's dissatisfaction with our poor record supporting Palestinian human rights and statehood. Sixty prominent Canada diplomats and politicians sent a letter to PM Trudeau urging him to reject Israel's policy. Trudeau fils does not have the courage of his father who took bold initiatives to recognize China and Cuba.
The Israelis' counterinsurgency program is reported upon daily by the respected Israeli newspaper Haaretz (Haaretz.com), as well as British newspapers such as The Independent and The (London) Guardian. Readers are encouraged to visit their websites.
Israel, according to its own security services, has destroyed both the two-state and one-state solution for the Palestinians. We in the Jewish community should remember that "What goes around, comes around," especially when we act like Good Germans and "See no evil, and hear no evil." This Jew is not a Good German.
