With all the current issues out there on our COVID-19-free Island, it’s debatable which one to tackle. For instance, M.A. Gray’s letter of May 23, defending the $500 that is to go to seniors of a certain income. We’ll take it! Yes, there are too many just eking out an existence on OAS and CPP. Some are not aware, that if they are 65 or over and retired they can apply for the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS).

I recall chatting with an acquaintance last summer re pensions and told her how to apply for this supplement. She was not aware of it. Two weeks later she sought me out to thank me, telling me she would be receiving over $500 a month in that supplement! I’ve told many seniors about it, because, to my knowledge, many don’t know.

On another note, just what are Islanders thinking, throwing offensive words at our premier and Dr. Morrison? Enough already! Just look at how well they both handled this pandemic. Only 27 cases, no hospitalizations and all recovered. And, yes, I believe we have to get the Island economy moving towards some semblance of normalcy. We are fortunate in this small province, that our politicians’ doors are always open, but not to the point of invading their privacy and scaring their families. We are the gentle Island. Let’s keep it that way!
