I was a member of the UFCW for nine years. Unions on P.E.I. demand designated smoking areas. How many times a day does a smoker touch his or her face a day? A smoker who takes five drags a cigarette will touch his or her face 100 times for a package of 20 cigarettes and 125 times with a package of 25 cigarettes. A smoker who takes 10 drags per cigarette will touch his or her face 200 times a for package of 20 cigarettes and 250 times for a package of 25 cigarettes. How many times a day do smokers wash their hands?

There are federal, provincial and municipal employee unions who aren’t explaining why unions aren't making members quit smoking. There are private sectors employee unions who aren't explaining why unions aren't making employees quit smoking. There are federal, provincial and municipal politicians who should explain why they don't demand employees quit smoking? Given COVID-19, private sector employers should explain why they don't demand private sector employees quit smoking.

We are a have-not province because we accept low standards. P.E.I. won’t move to become a have province till we reduce smoking on P.E.I.
