Should we be concerned with the recent abrupt and unexplained dismissal of Chris Huggan, director of UPEI athletics and recreation? Over a six-month span the university has effected the loss of its director of athletics, the manager of development in athletics and the co-ordinator of promotions and community engagement.

Is this a conscious dismantling of athletics at UPEI? If so, it could help explain the construction of a road through the two major outdoor atheltics facilities, the turf field and Alumni Place. This will be a health and safety concern for all users, not to mention the associated $2 million cost of the road. Over the past six years we have experienced the rise of the UPEI athletics programs to heights we haven't seen in years. These cuts and costs certainly raise concerns as to the goals of the administraiton with regards to support for our athletic programs. Again, should Panthers fans be concerned?
