I am voting Green in the upcoming byelection. For a number of years my area has been represented by the Liberal party. However, when the Liberal party announced last May that they were no longer going to work with government to bring improvements, I was very disappointed.
Since then I have been paying attention to what is happening in the legislative assembly. From my vantage point, it seems the only party that is listening to Islanders is the Green party. Sure, I’ve seen some PC ministers stand in the house and make grand speeches and promise us roads. But I’ve seen precious little in the way of meeting the needs of people like me. I am retired and living on a fixed income.
Last spring when the budget was being discussed, I saw nothing come from my Liberal MLA indicating he was engaged in putting forward the needs of any of his constituents.
However, I did see a number of Green MLAs speak up and talk about what matters to me. In fact, they showed us what they had asked for in the budget. These Green MLAs are a considerate and effective bunch. Sure, they may be rookies, but I’ve not seen a rookie team do this well before. In fact, I have not even seen the political veterans be this effective when they’ve been in opposition. Did you know that since the Greens formed the Official Opposition, they succeeded in having 10 pieces of their own legislation passed?
P.E.I. needs more Greens. We need their vision and their leadership. For that reason, I am voting Green.
