Mr. Premier, the fact that you are opening up the border to summer residents and others from all provinces in Canada is outrageous. Under the government of P.E.I. and its advisors, we as Islanders have done everything that we were asked to do during the COVID-19 crisis, and then some.
Under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, we as Islanders have the right to live in a safe environment. By opening up the borders, your government is putting the lives of every man, woman and child on this Island in jeopardy. You and your advisors can have all the degrees and letters after your name to fill a notepad. The one thing you are all lacking is common sense.
My family was deeply affected during the restrictions of this pandemic. My husband was in the QEH hospital for two weeks, sick, alone and very afraid. He died there. I will always have to live the the heartache he was so lonely and afraid. There were no COVID-19 cases on the Island for weeks when he was admitted. Yet we weren’t allowed to visit him. Calling families in when a loved one has a few hours to live is cruel.
We as Islanders are all living with the new normal and the new normal for off-Island residents is “stay home” until a vaccine is available. The fact that you believe everyone is self-isolating is a joke. Every Islander knows this isn’t happening. We all know what can happen with just one person to transmit COVID-19.
Keep Islanders safe; it is our right.
