Living not far from the North River Fire Hall, over the years I have often heard their sirens heading out in response to alarms. On a recent Saturday evening, I was initially appalled at the consistency of the sirens, thinking that it must be a very serious situation indeed. As the sirens neared my immediate neighbourhood, I finally remembered the change in plans for this year’s Santa Claus parade, and was fortunate to be on my front steps as the parade passed.
What a lovely idea to have it brought to our neighbourhoods during this unsettling year. At 68, perhaps my faith in Santa is not as strong as it should be, but I would like to let those wonderful folks know that they certainly restored the faith of this senior citizen in the kindness and generosity of Prince Edward Islanders. It is also a testimony to our resilience to all those people responsible for these parades.
Thank you and an extra special Merry Christmas – and thank you to Santa too!
Merry Christmas.
