It is both a pleasure and something of a surprise when large corporations keep their word. This week, WestJet returned my money for a covid-cancelled trip to Edmonton that my wife and I had planned last spring. At first, we’d thought the money gone, since no Canadian airlines were refunding money for cancelled tickets; but WestJet took the initiative to contact us to assure us that our purchase would be refunded. This week they made good on that promise. I did not have to complain or threaten, and my refund was made directly to my credit card and was not some sort of travel voucher.
As controversy increases about air carriers cancelling flights and keeping the money paid them for tickets, and as those same carriers seek taxpayer assistance to compensate for declining business, it is a pleasure to note that WestJet, at least, is working to maintain its reputation for integrity.
