I feel compelled to write this letter to the editor concerning the unfortunate situation the 25 families who live in Heritage Park in Summerside find themselves in.
Here we have a situation where 25 families who have been paying their mortgages and paying their property taxes, some for more than 30 years, now to find out now their investment is worth a fraction of what they paid taxes on.
They find themselves in this situation through no fault of their own. With no alternative park to move to, or to be able to afford the added expense even if they could find a spot.
We pride ourselves of being a compassionate and caring community, but for weeks now our elected officials have been silent.
Their city councilor, Brian McFeely, and Mayor Bill Martin should both have been screaming to the high heavens for these families.
Is our MLA Chris Palmer in a position to do something?
These men were elected to represent all their constituents.
At a time when every level of government is talking about affordable housing, should we sit back and watch 25 families, who live in affordable housing lose all they have worked towards.
I would suggest Summerside is big enough to have another mobile park of affordable housing.
I would challenge these three men to spearhead the project and make it happen.
These residents deserve better.
