This is an overdue thank you.
In the fall, the city public works department resurfaced the Ellen’s Creek section of Beach Grove Road. I hope everyone driving over it appreciates the fine job they did, and I hope it endures for a very long time.
Years ago, my husband was an assistant engineer with the P.E.I. Department of Highways. Through him, I began to understand and appreciate how much is involved in producing and maintaining good roads and streets in P.E.I. Indeed, former provincial Transportation minister Ron MacKinley used to remark that it’s like paving a sand bar – it presents lots of challenges.
Thanks also to whoever put up the billboard on North River Road, opposite Buchanan Drive. The one that appeared before Christmas, reminding us of “The Reason for the Season”. There’s so much hustle and bustle at that time, it’s easy to forget what it’s really all about.
That sign was removed recently, but maybe someone could put up another reminding us to say “thank you” all year round for the many big and little things people do that make daily life easier and more meaningful. Even on this little sand bar.
