I am writing in response to your article about the Pope Road roundabout (Pope Road roundabout plan not popular with one Summerside resident, Sept. 11).

I agree with Mr. Gerard, Prince Edward Island needs to stop wasting taxpayers' money on things like roundabouts. We have done fine with the intersection as of now, so why change it and spend thousands of dollars on something that’s working good right now? Don’t fix something that isn’t broken. We have enough construction going on in Summerside and P.E.I. already; we don’t need more.

It takes months upon months to get a roundabout done and finished and Pope Road is a busy place, especially where it connects with Central Street. Not every intersection needs a roundabout, sure they’re nice but they’re too expensive and time consuming to build if we don’t need one. Not only that, but land is expensive in this day and age and you can’t possibly expect someone to leave their house by selling it for way cheaper than what it’s worth.

If you want to spend our money, use it on the highways where there are giant potholes that are damaging cars and are hard to drive on. Sure they may be cheaper but, they take so long to build and most people don’t even know how to use them if they had taken their driver's test before you needed to know how to use them.
