Re: Dan and Marion Gallant’s letter (Thinking outside bubble, May 26). We too are shocked and saddened that people who only maintain a seasonal residence here think of some Islanders as having only "pea-sized minds".
You don’t need to insult those that are asking the government to continue on its path of caution. The very same government that you state you want to commend for its management of this scary outbreak. Dr. Heather Morrison has done an outstanding job of keeping the number of cases down and it should not be an exercise in futility because the privileged feel it’s their right to come here for one season. For that matter, you don’t need to come here at all!
The "magnitude of contributions" made by the "thousands of seasonal residents" will likely be missed by some but will pale by comparison to the thousands or millions of dollars it would cost to hospitalize permanent and non-permanent citizens alike as a result of people coming here from larger centres where it has not been as well regulated as P.E.I. Our front-line workers, hospital staff (all hospital staff) grocery store employees and any other retail that has been serving us throughout this lockdown, do not deserve to be exposed to any further risk than they already have.
Perhaps you should consider staying home in B.C. where the "pea-sized" minds of P.E.I. won’t interfere with your summer recreation.
