Gail Lethbridge’s article (“#MeTooTwo puck bouncing around NHL,” Dec. 7) in Saturday’s Opinion section indicating there might be an opening of the sluice gates for the beginnings of a “#MeTooTwo movement” failed to note there is a very active direction of Hockey Canada taking place re: ensuring diversity in all ranks of the sport.

I am fortunate to be sitting on a committee dealing with a whole new approach for nominating directors for the board of Hockey Canada under the leadership of Michael Brind’Amour, chair of Hockey Canada and Michael Bruni, chair of the committee. If one goes to the website for the board, one will see a picture of the nine highly qualified, dedicated and professional volunteers who donate so much of their time to ensure this beloved sport thrives for the over 750,000 players in this country.

What immediately pops out is that all nine members are men. At the meeting of the organization in Montreal several weeks ago, there was a resolution passed which requires any future boards to have a minimum of at least two women and two men. This is a huge step for Hockey Canada and one that is long overdue.

Our committee is working on a new protocol for dealing with how new board members will be selected, which includes calling for any interested parties to submit applications for the positions. Gail is correct in stating that there is a beginning of a bigger change in the culture of Hockey in Canada.
