I would like to thank David Delaney for his most recent column (“Systemic racism: another view,” Nov. 30) in the Cape Breton Post. It was very well written and organized.
Yes, there is a common thread in so many public statements and I think Mr. Delaney captured the conundrum for contrary views. "Their taking the knee … " section summarizes it so nicely.
There are real problems that might be improved if the discussion could get past the shallow issue statements as Delaney points out is happening in the case of the fishery.
I would also add 'we' need to get beyond reviewing history from various new perspectives to assign some blame to seek restitution. It focuses effort on the problem and divides people into us and them. There is little focus on solutions. Though most people think the solution will naturally evolve, it seldom does.
Let's see where we are and move on without repeating mistakes or further dividing "us."
