Editor’s note: The following is a list of some of the noteworthy incidents and investigations undertaken by Prince District RCMP between March 19 and 25.

Journal Pioneer staff

A home in Miscouche was struck by paintballs on March 21. East Prince RCMP received a complaint from a resident at 1 p.m. stating that their house was hit with orange paintballs sometime the night prior between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Summerside Police Services also are investigating numerous incidents involving orange paintballs. The matter is still under investigation.

Lights believed to be from aircraft

East Prince RCMP received a complaint on March 19 from a man advising that over the past while he has seen red and green flashing lights from a hovering object. The complainant thought that lights maybe from an Unmanned Ariel Vehicle. The RCMP followed up with various leads and determined that the report of the lights was directly in line with the airport in New Brunswick and were likely the result of small aircraft in that area.

Groceries stolen

On March 19, at about 4 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a complaint that a female had stolen groceries the weekend prior from the Independent grocery store in Alberton. A second complaint from the same store was received stating that a male had stolen groceries on that same day as well. The matter is still under investigation.

Car entered

On March 19, at about 9:30 p.m., a woman is alleged to have entered a parked vehicle at a residence in East Bideford on March 19. The 42-year-old fled on foot but was later located and arrested by East Prince RCMP. She is scheduled to attend court in mid-April.  The public is reminded to lock your vehicle when unattended to prevent these type of opportunity thefts.

No one found after ice incident

At noon on March 20, West Prince RCMP received a complaint that three young men, who had been in a greenish-coloured Toyota, were walking on the ice at the beach near Jacques Cartier Park. The Mounties responded and spoke with a woman who walking in the park, but no one else was observed in the area.

Two warnings issued

Two warnings were issued at a police checkpoint in Tignish on March 21 at 11 a.m. West Prince RCMP conducted a checkpoint and a total of 20 vehicles were stopped.

Another phone scam

On March 21, at about 8 p.m., West Prince RCMP received a report from a resident in Alberton, reporting a possible phone scam. The complainant said he had received a call from someone claiming to work for Canada Border Services, who stated there was a warrant out for his arrest and that he must pay or he would be taken into custody. RCMP are reminding the public to be vigilant when accepting phone calls where the caller demands money or personal information, as there are many phone scams on the go. Those who suspect they are a victim of fraud can contact the Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Senior safe and with family

East Prince RCMP received a request for a well-being check on an 81-year-old male resident of Mount Tryon on March 22.  Police attended his residence at about 11:45 a.m. and confirmed the resident was safe and well and transported him to the care of a family member.

Assault charges pending

A 27-year-old man is facing numerous charges following an incident March 23. At about 9:45 p.m., East Prince RCMP were called to conduct a well-being check and provide assistance to a man walking along Route 11 in Linkletter. Police located the individual who refused to identify himself and began yelling at, and later assaulted the officer. The man was arrested and faces charges of assault on a police officer and resisting/obstructing a peace officer. He was then transported to the East Prince Detachment and is due to appear in court in early May.

Dispute at Central Bedeque business

On March 24, at approximately 3:00 PM, RCMP received a complaint of a dispute at a business located in Central Bedeque. Police attended the location, and upon speaking with the individuals involved, no one wished to provide statements or pursue an investigation.

Crash sends 3 to hospital

East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a two-vehicle collision on March 24 at about 2:30 p.m., on Route 225 in Shamrock. Due to slushy and snow-covered road conditions, one vehicle lost control and crossed laneways into the path of an oncoming vehicle. Three people were transported to the Prince County Hospital for medical treatment.

Generator stolen

Police are investigating following a break-in in Long River. On March 25, East Prince RCMP received a complaint of a break and enter to a residence that had not been occupied for some time. The offence is believed to have happened sometime between March 18 and 25. A Champion generator was stolen, valued at approximately $400. The investigation is continuing.

Police receive traffic complaints

During this past week, Prince District RCMP report 19 traffic-related complaints. These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway. RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints and patrols throughout March in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving.
