Phone, internet scams continue

SUMMERSIDE – The public is reminded that both phone scams and internet scams are continuing in the area.

Prince County RCMP say if someone is looking for your personal information, offering a business opportunity to make money from home, investment opportunity, or soliciting donations on behalf of some group, stop and ask questions.

The Mounties say to ask for the person’s name, employee number, a phone number you can call back and for the company name. Be cautious of requests for personal information or asks for money or of an e-mail that appears to be from someone you know, about a new product or from a company you have never heard of.

An e-mail that asks you to click a link, unless you have signed up to receive these types of information, it is probably a scam, police said in a recent release. If you receive an offer that you can’t seem to pass up, remember the rule of thumb, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”.

9 traffic compliants to Mounties

SUMMERSIDE – During this past week, Prince District RCMP received nine traffic-related complaints.  These complaints mostly pertained to vehicles alleged to be driving erratically and speeding, as well as reports of traffic hazards on the roadway.

RCMP will be continuing to conduct checkpoints and patrols into the month of June, in various communities across Prince District, targeting cell phone use, seat belts, distracted driving and impaired driving. Anyone with information regarding these investigations or other criminal activity is asked to call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
