KENSINGTON, P.E.I. - Kensington Police have arrested one suspect and are looking for another for alleged illegal use of snowmobiles in the Town of Kensington.

The town has had long-standing issues with people using snowmobiles improperly within the community, include travelling over private property without permission or driving them on the road.

Police Chief Lewie Sutherland said he responded to a report Tuesday morning that two snowmobiles were being operated on MacLean Avenue. Officers responded but the machines’ operators fled.

The vehicles were found at a home on Hillside Drive. Officers went to the home looking for their operators but they were gone.

One of the suspects was arrested in Summerside Wednesday morning. They are facing charges under the Off-Highway Vehicle Act. Both snowmobiles have been impounded.

Two other people in the Hillside Drive home were also arrested as there were warrants out for their arrests.

Sutherland said that conservation enforcement officers have been in the community on their own snowmobiles and are enforcing the act.
