A 38-year-old man from Goulds died trapped in his vehicle at the scene of a single-vehicle collision in Witless Bay Thursday night.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police says the vehicle left the roadway near the Witless Bay Bridge, suffering extensive damaged and coming to rest on its roof.
RCMP officers from Ferryland and Holyrood, Emergency Health Services paramedics and volunteer firefighters from Witless Bay attended the scene. Firefighters removed the man from the vehicle.
A collision reconstructionist from RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was engaged.
The investigation is continuing, but the RCMP ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any knowledge of it is asked to contact the Ferryland detachment at (709) 432-2440. A man was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle collision in Witless Bay.
The collision happened at about 5:30 p.m. near the bridge in Witless Bay and left the vehicle with extensive damage near a utility pole.
The RCMP and the Witless Bay Volunteer Fire Department are at the scene, and police are awaiting the arrival of an accident reconstructionist.
The road is closed indefinitely in the area and traffic is being diverted at the scene at Southside Track.
