MEAT COVE, N.S. — A 62-year-old woman from Prince Edward Island was seriously injured after her motorcycle went over a cliff in Meat Cove on Thursday.
The accident occurred shortly before 6 p.m. according to a provincial RCMP press release.
The woman was moving the motorcycle she and a family member had been travelling on when she lost control of the bike and went over a nearby cliff, falling 30 metres to the ground below.
The motorcycle came to rest approximately 10 metres from where the woman had landed.
She survived the fall, but did suffer serious injuries.
A very detailed rescue attempt began when the family member travelling with her slid down the cliff to assist her. Two volunteer fire departments, one of which had a high-angle rescue team, assisted with the rescue of the woman, as well.
Once stabilized, the accident victim was transported to Bay St. Lawrence via a civilian boat, then transferred by EHS to local hospital where she was airlifted for further medical treatment.
The RCMP acknowledged the assistance of the various agencies and civilians in the woman’s rescue, noting a very dangerous and challenging situation.
