CENTRAL BEDEQUE, P.E.I. — The RCMP is requesting the public's assistance regarding a woman who was attacked with a metal rod in January.
According to a news release, the investigation is ongoing and any information the public may have could assist them. The Guardian reached out to the RCMP's East Prince Detachment but no one was available for comment.
On Jan. 31, a 21-year-old women pulled her car to the side of the road on Route 10 in Central Bedeque between 10-10:30 p.m. As she dealt with a mechanical issue, a second vehicle pulled over and a man offered to assist her, the release said.
The man then attacked her and tried to rob her before being scared off by a passing vehicle.
The Guardian previously reported the man used a metal rod, which was described as "pipe-like".
Cpl. Lisa Jones with the Prince District RCMP said they were contacted at 11:14 p.m. Following the attack, the woman called her boyfriend and went to the hospital, where Jones said she had cuts on her face and her hands.
During the early stages of their investigation, the RCMP checked with the Confederation Bridge to see its surveillance tapes from the night of the attack.
“It’s possible (the man) left the Island, but I can’t say,” Jones said on Feb. 2.
At the time, Jones didn’t think the assailant posed any further threat to the public, saying it was likely just a "random thing."
Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 902-436-9300 or P.E.I. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
