It was more than just a wet day Thursday as torrential rains set a new record for rainfall.
Saltwire Network chief meteorologist Cindy Day said Stratford saw the most rain Thursday with 60 millimetres falling.
Charlottetown set a new record for Aug. 9 with 34.4 millimetres, beating the old mark of 18.5 millimetres set in 1951.

Day said the thunderstorms that moved through the province came in waves and pockets, sitting overhead longer in some places than others.
“So, while the numbers are important to watch they vary a lot across the Island,” she said.
The normal rainfall total for August in P.E.I. is usually about 95 millimetres, Day said.
“It’s been very dry, and July was extremely dry as well so it’s been a dry stretch.”
Day said the thunderstorm cells that moved through the province were very intense.
“They were isolated but they were powerful storms.”
