CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. woman who went in a ditch while driving drunk was sentenced recently to seven days in jail.

Jenna Nichole Holmes, 23, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Crown attorney Nathan Beck told the court that on Aug. 21 at 7:17 p.m. the RCMP responded to a call about a single-vehicle collision in New Dominion. Beck said that when they arrived, they saw a Jeep in the ditch.

Holmes, who was the driver, later provided breathalyzer samples that were around twice the legal limit. Her lawyer said she was feeling extreme remorse for her lack of judgment.

Along with the jail time, Holmes must pay a $1,500 fine and a $450 victim surcharge and is banned from driving for one year.
