SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 17-year-old youth from Truro has been charged in relation to an armed robbery that occurred at a Granville Street gas station in Summerside last August.

At 3:36 a.m. on Aug. 15, police responded to a hold-up alarm at the business.

The clerk on duty reported being robbed by a young person who had a weapon.

The suspect fled with a quantity of money and cigarettes.

Since this incident occurred, the Summerside Police Services Major Crime Unit, with assistance from the Forensic Identification Section, have continued the investigation.

As a result of the continued investigation, a forensic identification officer was able to obtain evidence that lead to the identification of the teen as a suspect.

The youth was arrested in Truro by Truro police on Jan. 28.

He was released from custody but will be appearing in youth court in Summerside on Feb. 27 at 1:30 p.m. to face one charge of robbery.
