STRATFORD, P.E.I. — Stratford town council is adopting tax grouping structure similar to that of Charlottetown's and Cornwall's.

The announcement came during Stratford's 2020-21 budget approval, which was presented via a livestream on March 30. One of the groups included is for non-residents, which applies to property owners living off P.E.I.

For them, taxes will be equal to double the equivalent resident tax rates in each group.

Apartments and multi-units will move from their current rates into a tax group rate, as will hotels and motel. The rates will be phased in over the next two years – ultimately, both groups will move to $0.66 per $100 of assessment by the second year.
