The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Canada – Prince Edward Island held its award ceremony recently at the Centre for Community Engagement, Holland College.
President Neil Thompson welcomed P.E.I. Lt.-Gov. Antoinette Perry, Brad Trivers, minister of education and lifelong learning, Doug Currie, vice-president corporate sales, Holland College, and Jason Coady, deputy mayor, city of Charlottetown.
Thompson called upon Perry, Trivers and Currie for their remarks.
Guest speaker and gold award recipient Julia Ross gave an inspiring speech to the youth, and Colonel Gray recipient Betty Zhang provided the music selection on the zither.
A total of 286 recipients received the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.
Participants were from 53 RCACS C.E. Monty, 60 RCACS Confederation, 85 RCSCC Summerside, Belfast-Lot 58, Bluefield High School, Charlottetown Rural High School, Colonel Gray High School, East Wiltshire School, École François Buote, Englewood School, Grace Christian School, Gulf Shore Consolidated School, Immanuel Christian School, Queen Charlotte Intermediate School, Stonepark Intermediate School and independents.
Perry presented the bronze and silver certificate, and Thompson presented the bronze and silver award pin.
The master of ceremonies for the evening was Rosalyn Sellick, vice-president.
