CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — When Tangerine Hair & Spa was thinking about contributing to the Bowl for Kids Sake for Big Brothers Big Sisters campaign, this year, staff members wanted to do something in addition to collecting pledges and lacing up their shoes before they bowl together next week.

They are hosting an Extreme Makeover Tangerine Edition. The reveal party is Saturday, Feb. 29, at 7 p.m. at the salon.

“It’s a win-win situation because it’s helping these women by boosting their confidence and it’s helping Bowl For Kids Sake,” says Jaqueline Marquis, salon manager/stylist who, with shop owner/stylist Shona Ryan, invited people to nominate themselves and their friends.

From the entries they picked 13 women and are doing complete makeovers complete with professional photos and fashions from Luxury Consignment Boutique in Charlottetown.

“We contacted all our contestants and had them in for a one-on-one consultation where we discussed cuts and colours and what would be most flattering to the colour and face shape – what we do best,” says Ryan.

Then they set up their appointments with stylists with the estheticians.

On Thursday morning, Angela Weir dropped in to have her hair cut and styled by stylist Caleigh Aitkin.

“It’s so exciting to get a whole new look. It’s a great way to refresh and feel better,” says Weir.

At the same time, she’s feeling a bit “nervous.”

“I don’t wear makeup but I know I’m in good hands.”

At the Big Brothers/Big Sisters office the communications and development officer, is enthused with the fundraiser.

The Extreme Makeover Tangerine Edition is going to be a fun event, says Heather Doran.

“By using their talents to raise money for Bowl for Kids Sake, they will be helping some really great kids reach their full potential.”

The group’s mentoring programs have social return on investment of $18 for every dollar invested which means the money raised will have a huge impact on our community.

“We are so grateful to the staff of Tangerine Hair & Spa, our other Bowl for Kids Sake teams and the people who support them for empowering Island children to succeed.”
