Alexander MacKay of Charlottetown has been chosen for the 2019/2020 class of Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

MacKay, who is the son of Karen Rose and Lester MacKay, will join 140 other recipients from around the world in pursuing a masters in global affairs.

Designed to prepare young leaders to serve as a bridge between China and the rest of the world, Schwarzman Scholars is the first scholarship created to respond to the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century.

Whether in politics, business or science, the success of future leaders around the world will depend upon an understanding of China’s role in global trends.

MacKay will graduate from New York University Abu Dhabi in May 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and a minor in the environment.

As a Schwarzman Scholar, MacKay hopes to gain insight into implementing sustainable solutions to water issues in the developing world.
