The swim will begin early morning from Cape Jourimain N.B., to Borden Carleton P.E.I.
Former Summerside native, Logan Hayman, originally hatched the idea after taking a $50 bet that he couldn’t swim across the Northumberland Strait. Hayman, who now lives in Vancouver B.C., has enlisted the help of childhood friends Charlie Schurman and Bryan Cameron to help him with the swim.
Hayman, Schurman, and Cameron are looking to grow the successful annual event each year, all in support of raising funds and awareness for Generation XX in Summerside.
The three swimmers are former members of Generation XX, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Generation XX is hoping to raise enough funds to add an addition to the Club, which will house an indoor bowl for skateboarders.
A highlight of the Moonshiners Swim will be a “Swashbucklers Social” at the Summerside Legion on the evening after the swim. Everyone is invited to participate in the event and learn more about the upcoming project for Generation XX.
Hayman, Schurman, and Cameron hope is to attract swimmers who travel the world attempting various bodies of water, to come to P.E.I. to swim the Northumberland Strait.
