CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who fraudulently used a company credit card without permission was sentenced recently to 90 days in jail.

George Daniel Larter, 33, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the fraud.

Reading from an agreed statement of facts, Crown attorney Nathan Beck told the court the offence dated back to 2018 when Larter used a company credit card without permission for six transactions through Western Union.

The total value of the transactions was $1,408.95.

Beck said Larter gave a statement to police confessing to using the card after writing down its number.

Larter worked for the company for six months after the incident, Beck said, adding he was dismissed for an unrelated reason.

Beck said the transactions were discovered after an audit, and Larter repaid the money prior to his arrest.

In sentencing Larter, Orr accepted a joint recommendation from the Crown and defence.

Along with the jail time, Larter will be on probation for 18 months and he must perform 50 hours of community service.

Larter must also write an apology letter.
