CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was driving drunk on a motorcycle while his licence was suspended was sentenced recently to 30 days in jail.

Daniel Leigh Labobe, 26, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after he pleaded guilty to drunk driving and failing to attend court.

Reading from an agreed statement of facts, Crown attorney Nathan Beck said that on April 21 at around 12:30 a.m., the RCMP responded to a call about a possible impaired driver.

A witness reported they were following a motorcycle that was driving erratically.

Beck said there was also a report that the motorcycle tipped over at a gas station.

The police later found Labobe, who provided breathalyzer samples that were more than 1.5 times the legal limit.

At the time, his licence was suspended and the court heard he had a prior criminal record that included an impaired driving conviction and another for driving while disqualified.

Orr also sentenced Labobe to three days in jail for missing a court appearance in Georgetown, with that sentence to be served concurrently.

Along with the jail time, Labobe is banned from driving for two years.

He is also scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 26 on other charges.
