GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A 27-year-old P.E.I. was sentenced to 30 days in jail for punching his on-again, off-again partner in the face.

Brendan James Butler will also be on probation for 18 months upon his release.

Court heard Butler was under the influence of drugs when he punched the victim in the face with a closed fist on Aug. 14. The domestic assault, described as lower end, caused an abrasion to the woman’s face.

The couple, who have been together on and off over the past three years, have both voiced a desire to continue their relationship.

However, a judge ordered Butler to refrain from having any contact with the victim unless he receives formal approval to do so.

Butler was also ordered to write a letter of apology to the victim.
