CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was caught with more than 1,000 images of child pornography will be back in court next month to hear his sentence.

Zane Cameron, 44, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography.

Reading from an agreed statement of facts, Crown attorney Nathan Beck told the court an RCMP officer with the major crimes child exploitation unit in P.E.I. began to investigate a report of child pornography connected to someone in the province.

The court heard that as part of the investigation, the officer determined the physical address of the internet account involved in downloading several images.

Beck said Cameron lived in an apartment at that address in Greenvale where his internet service was included with the rent.

When the police executed a search warrant in February, Cameron told them he recognized the file names involved in the investigation and said there was child pornography on his laptop along with other storage devices.

The court heard the police seized several devices and found more than 1,000 images of child pornography with Beck saying most involved children engaged in “explicit sexual acts” with adults.

Beck said the police also found 103 videos with a majority of them involving children engaged in explicit sexual acts.

A pre-sentence report will be prepared before Cameron’s next court appearance on Oct. 28 when he will be sentenced.

Cameron faces a mandatory minimum sentence of six months in jail and a potential maximum of two years less a day.
