CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who told police there was going to be a murder suicide was recently given a suspended sentence for uttering a threat.
Travis Charles Dunn, 29, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he entered a guilty plea.
Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court that on Aug. 29, a police officer went to see Dunn after another man raised concerns about his own safety.
MacDonald told the court Dunn said he was going to take matters into his own hands and there was going to be a murder suicide.
Defence lawyer Alex Dalton told the court Dunn had an underlying mental-health issue and has been in and out of hospital.
Dalton also said Dunn admitted the comments could be interpreted as a threat, but that wasn’t the way he meant for them to be taken.
Dunn addressed the court before hearing his sentence and said he wished the whole thing had never happened.
With the suspended sentence, Dunn will be on probation for nine months, which includes a condition he have no contact with the victim.
