The Mighty Island Chowder Trail has officially launched for its first season of friendly seafood chowder competition.

Featuring 62 restaurants from tip-to-tip and opportunities for both chowder fans and restaurants to win prizes, the newly minted guide to seafood chowders is set to make a big splash on the Island’s culinary scene.

A project of Discover Charlottetown in partnership with the Island’s Regional Tourism Associations – Central Coastal Drive, Tourism Cavendish Beach, Explore Summerside, North Cape Coastal Drive, and Points East Coastal Drive – the guide was developed to help visitors explore the Island’s many gems and find their favourite seafood chowder along the way.

The initiative, which is also supported by Tourism P.E.I., has been extremely well-received by the Island’s restauranteurs. A remarkable 62 restaurants have committed to serving up their unique take on a seafood chowder throughout the promotion, which got underway on June 1 and runs to Oct. 6, to coincide with the finale of the Fall Flavours Festival.

Visitors and Islanders are encouraged to rate the chowders they try online and will be entered to win a $1,000 seafood extravaganza for each chowder they rate. At the end of the season, one restaurant will win bragging rights and the People’s Choice Award for the Best P.E.I. Seafood Chowder.

Chowder lovers are also invited to share their chowder experiences and pictures on social media with #peichowdertrail for a chance to win weekly prizes beginning in July.

Twenty thousand chowder trail guides have been printed and distributed widely across the Island, including all Visitor Information Centres and participating restaurants. The guide is also available online in digital format.
