CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Veteran Charlottetown police Const. Tim Keizer is no longer the school resource officer at Colonel Gray High School.
Keizer, who started at the Charlottetown school seven years ago, was recently replaced in the role by Const. Chantelle Costello. School resource officers at Colonel Gray and Charlottetown Rural High School are making contacts with students and dealing with files ranging from sexual assault investigations and seizures of cannabis.
Keizer, who joined the police force in 1996, spent more than 15 years facilitating the drug abuse resistance and education (DARE) curriculum in He also spent more than 25 years coaching or assisting Island youth. Keizer was recognized in 2017 by the Rotary Club of Hillsborough with the Vocational Service Award for showing exemplary leadership.
However, Keizer is still keeping busy as the traffic services officer for Charlottetown Police Services.
In September, he responded to numerous community-related traffic complaints, ranging from issues with gravel trucks on residential streets, students’ safety while entering and exiting school buses, to crosswalk sight lines and visibility.
