SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Three Island radio stations are launching a new photography contest in June as part of their promotion of the Summerside Lobster Carnival.
Spud FM, CFCY, and Q93 radio stations have signed on as radio media sponsors of the 62nd edition of the Summerside Lobster Carnival.
The relationship between Summerside’s primary festival and CJRW – SPUD FM dates back to the early days of the carnival. The community radio station was front and centre in promoting the carnival on the airwaves. CJRW broadcasters were the volunteer Master of Ceremonies for numerous activities, such as the Celebrity Dinner.
In recent years the coverage has gone even further than Island-wide with the exposure offered by sister stations CFCY and Q93.
As part of their celebratory work for the 2018 edition of the carnival, which honours the role of lobster in Island culture and economy, the three radio stations are launching the Summerside Lobster Carnival Lobster Photo Competition. Islanders will be invited to submit their lobster photos to the three stations starting in June.
The pictures will be posted by the radio stations and listeners invited to select the winners through voting. The competition will run throughout June. The top three selections will be declared the winners and be on display in the lobster food and demonstration tent during the carnival, July 12 to 14.
The radio stations will reveal the prizes to be won when they officially launch the competition in June, but with the lobster season in full swing, photographers need to be aware the competition is on the horizon. Photographers, both amateur and professional, are encouraged to use their creativity in capturing the perfect picture that represents the lobster industry, or the enjoyment of the culinary delight.
