The garden of Wyatt Heritage Properties, 205 Prince St., Summerside (corner of Granville and Prince streets) is set to come alive with the sound of music performed by local musicians on the outdoor stage.
Getting underway on July 3, the annual Concerts in the Garden series features a variety of music that is all in some way connected to the roots of the Maritimes.
Bring along a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the concerts which run 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is by donation. During the intermission, ice cream made daily on the premises is offered for sale. For any additional questions, call 902-432-1298.
Following is the 2019 lineup:
July 3 – Rodney Savident: Performing for over 60 years, he plays a variety of music from 1950s and ’60s rock ’n’ roll, country and bluegrass gospel. He has recorded a number of CDs, the latest titled, “Rodney Savident Sings Real Country”.
July 10 – Patina: This group, composed of Kevin MacPherson, Bob Picard and Bob (Pizza) Maclean, performs a wide variety of easy listening music from artists such as Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, The Eagles and Barenaked Ladies to local song writing legend Gene MacLellan and a few originals by band member Kevin MacPherson.
July 17: Kevin Arthur and Fred Martin: This duo delights audiences with the singing of Maritime and traditional music. Their names are well-known in the Island music scene.
July 24: Summerside Arts Festival Performance in the Garden – Nick Doneff and Nathan Wiley: This performance will be part of the Summerside Arts Festival, July 23-25. Since relocating in 2013, Ontario native Doneff has become a staple within the P.E.I. music scene as a busy sideman and multi-instrumentalist. Following the December 2016 release of his debut recording, he has been attracting attention for his earnest song writing and his magnetic live performances. Hailing from Summerside, three-time ECMA award and five-time Music P.E.I. award-winning artist Wiley has shared the stage with artists like Blue Rodeo, Sarah Harmer, Steve Earle, Billy Bragg, Matt Mays, Ron Sexsmith and many more. He first earned acclaim for his 2002 debut “Bottom Dollar”, followed up with “High Low”, “The City Destroyed Me” and “Bandits”.
July 31 – Not All There: This Irish pub band is never sure just how many band members are showing up for a gig but, regardless, it is always a great show. Gary Arsenault, Wendell Cameron, Mike Johnstone and Ramona Roberts are a few of the musicians.
Aug. 7 – The Buchanan Family: Lloyd Buchanan and his sister, Wanda (Dunbar), have entertained audiences from the stages of numerous venues. The Buchanan’s perform contemporary, country and 1960s music, with a smidge of gospel in the mix.
Aug. 14 - Juliette and Old Tradition: Juliette Squarebriggs, Jack Darrach and Fred Arsenault make up this group. Music has been a common thread within the lives of Juliette, Jack and Fred. Throughout the years, they have played music with different groups and fellow musicians. When the three started making music together, they found their roots in classic country music.
Aug. 21 – Gentle Breeze: This all-new four-member has a total of over 100 years of entertaining experience both on and off P.E.I. Singer/songwriter Lisa Logan's has shared the stage with such names as Johnny Burke, Conway Twitty, Gordon Lightfoot, Michelle Wright and Kenny Rogers. Dylan Ferguson is a familiar face on Island stages where he started performing at the age of 10. In 2012, he released his first recording, Country Roots. Harold and Marnie Noye have been entertaining on and off P.E.I. for over 30 years as a duo and with several different bands. Harold sings a fine lead and plays mandolin and guitar. Marnie plays stand up base and adds harmony vocals. They have numerous awards to their credit.
